About

National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS)

NCRIS provides equipment, data, services and expertise to enable world-leading research, development and translation for the benefit of all Australians.

Enabling world-class research

Unique internationally

Australia hits well above its weight in the world of international research – we’re home to 0.3% of the world’s population, but we’re responsible for 4% of global research and at a higher quality than other countries with similar population size.

One reason for this is our focus on efficiency – getting the most bang for our buck – and this is where NCRIS has a significant impact. NCRIS ensures the best coverage for Australia by strategically investing in cutting-edge infrastructure and resident experts to ensure it is always ready and in top condition.

The infrastructure is open to anyone – academics, industry, government and the general public – and is co-funded by state and territory governments, industry, universities and research agencies to minimise costs.

Use our advanced search to find the state-of-the-art infrastructure you need to lead in your field.

What is Research Infrastructure Connected (RIC)?

RIC helps you find the tools you need

Research infrastructure (RI) can be physical, like a supercomputer or microscope, or intangible, like a data collection or a software platform. NCRIS funds a network of 28 RI Providers involving over 400 delivery partnerships, and employing over 1,900 highly skilled technical experts, researchers, and facility managers. Each Provider specialises in a particular type of RI with capabilities across the network ranging from gene editing to space exploration. The network can also provide coordinated support across multiple Providers to help you with more complex projects.

The breadth and variety of RI available through NCRIS can be overwhelming. Research Infrastructure Connected (RIC) helps you to find the tools you need and the experts who can shorten the time it takes to get to a working solution.

The advanced search allows you to use keywords and filters to find relevant Providers, case studies and contact details. You can also complete our online enquiry form to get connected – RIC will discuss your project with you and connect you with the Providers who can help.
