This portal includes access to all documentation relevant to the wider ACCESS community, as well as a platform for the ACCESS community to come together, share information, have fruitful discussions, organise and plan shared activities. The ACCESS-Hive was originally launched in November 2022 in response to a clear community needs to consolidate the existing ACCESS Community documentation and for a platform to collaborate and share information.
Professor Andy Hogg, Director of the ACCESS-NRI, said, “The ACCESS-Hive enables much needed engagement between users and developers of the ACCESS modelling system.”
Dr Paola Petrelli from the ARC Centre of Excellence for Climate Extremes (CLEX) and the Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies (IMAS) and a user of the ACCESS models said, “I think this is of great benefit to the Australian climate community, it is something that was on our wish list for a long time, and now we finally have a shared platform we can use for documentation and collaboration,”
“One major problem the community highlighted in our recent ACCESS-NRI workshop was the difficulty on finding documentation about the ACCESS models and configurations. The ACCESS-Hive portal is a solution to this challenge and will inform us about the needs of the community,” says Dr Romain Beucher, Team leader of the Model Evaluation and Diagnostics team at ACCESS-NRI.
ACCESS-Hive is part of an effort to design higher quality and more accessible documentation for ACCESS and its community. “Providing a single access point to any relevant documentation improves the accessibility and visibility of the documentation. As a portal, ACCESS-Hive provides links to documentation hosted on other sites, but also enables community members to post their own,” said Dr Claire Carouge, Team Leader of the Land Modelling Infrastructure.
Dr Aidan Heerdegen, Team Leader of the ACCESS Model Release Management team said, “We hope that the ACCESS-Hive will be a place of co-creation and collaboration, just like a beehive, buzzing with activity. Our vision is that the ACCESS-Hive will become the main portal to ACCESS documentation, but also a place where everyone works towards the common goal of improving the essential and powerful tools that form the ACCESS framework.”
